I am realizing something that didn’t really hit me hard until I got older. I couldn’t imagine doing life without Christ. How could we? Life brings so many ups and downs and without Christ what do we have? How do we overcome? How do we even survive without His guidance and scriptures? Getting older will make a lot of things very plain and clear and for me, this week, it is that fact that a part from my heavenly Father, I have nothing. In Christ I am confident!
From Him, to Him, and through Him are ALL things!
Psalm 16 is this beautiful poetic love letter to the Lord. Verse 5-6 reads,
5 Lord, you are my portion
and my cup of blessing;
you hold my future.
6 The boundary lines have fallen for me
in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance."
David eloquently describes the Lord as his cup of blessing meaning only HE satisfies. David is convinced that it is from the Lord that he gets refreshed and fulfilled! What are you filling up on to satisfy your dreams, your life, or longings? For so long I looked for that in everyone and everything else BUT the Lord. These things can fill us up for sure but do they sustain? For me the answer was no. It would satisfy for a moment before I needed more. The Lord is good because what He offers lasts forever. It keeps us full not needing anything else but Him! The Lord is our cup of blessing. He is the reward that we should seek after. The bible says in Psalm 27:4,
4 "One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple."
This should be the posture of our heart, each and everyday. He is our reward! There will always be things that look mouth watering and good to partake in but if the Lord is an option on the table, He is the one we should choose every single time. May He be the lover of our heart, the fountain that our souls drink from, and the the place where we desire to dwell forever.
“You hold my future…” Wow, what assurance! Christ isn’t making up things as He goes, He is guiding us on a path that was already set before us! I may have a lot going on and can’t see where I am going but I know who does. I am so thankful that He sits high and looks low. He has a better view than I do and that is reassuring! He holds my future and He watches His word so that it may play out like He planned it. What does this mean? This means that He is constantly moving and shifting things on my behalf to set up the scene! HE IS GOOD!
"The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I watch over my word to accomplish it."
Jeremiah 1:12
I have been thinking a lot about verse 6 this week. It makes my heart leap out of my chest when I think about the Creator of the world giving us an inheritance as His sons and daughters! Just like parents store up blessings for their children, the Lord has done that for us as HIS children. On hard weeks like this one, I am reminded that the Lord has set me in a place where provision, protection, blessing, reward, and salvation are stored up for me! Once you say “yes” to God this promise is true for you too!
“The boundary lines have fallen…” This is written like they were once up. There was a time when I feel like I just couldn’t catch a break. I was living for myself not knowing what to believe in. I was susceptible to anything because I had no covering. But when I stepped into relationship with the Lord, He called me “daughter” and placed me on solid ground where Heaven is the limit! In pleasant places full of blessing where there are NO boundaries! I have access to earthly gifts and the ultimate reward, an eternity spent with Him in Heaven! However He wants to bless me, is His choice. This verse validates that since saying “yes” to Christ I have access to all that He has stored up for me! Will life still feel hard sometimes, yes, but He has placed my feet in places where blessings flow from my obedience to Him and His word. “Surely, I have a delightful inheritance…”
7 I will bless the Lord who counsels me—
even at night when my thoughts trouble me.
8 I always let the Lord guide me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.
David goes on to praise the Lord with thanksgiving. Here he is saying thank you Lord for giving me wisdom. Even in the midnight hour as we sleep, He is directing our path. It doesn’t just stop, He is always moving and shifting things on our behalf. He is the great counselor and the one who gives us guidance. We need Him. You need someone to rely on? You can depend on the Lord! You can lean against Him! He will give you rest and whisper instruction in your ear. I believe the Lord gives us glimpses of where He wants to take us. We just have to walk in faith that His hand ultimately plays a role in getting us there. Not only is God the counselor, He is our helper and strength!
Isaiah 41:13 says,
"For I am the Lord your God who holds your right hand, saying to you, 'Fear not, I will help you'".
He is available to you. Praise the Lord that we have access to Him. Thank you Jesus that in Him we are satisfied even when life feels hard. The Lord will sustain you through it. Keep your eyes on His face! He will protect you and keep your legs from stumbling! In Him you can be confident!
