Key Verses
The sermon was preached out Psalm 23 verses 1-6.
(1) “The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, to guide and to shield me],
I shall not want.
(2) He lets me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still and quiet waters.
(3) He refreshes and restores my soul (life);
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
for His name’s sake.
(4) Even though I walk through the [sunless] valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort and console me.
(5) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You have anointed and refreshed my head with oil;
My cup overflows.
(6) Surely goodness and mercy and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life,
And I shall dwell forever [throughout all my days] in the house and in the presence of the Lord.”
Notes/Thoughts
We can look at Psalm 23 not only as a prayer but also as an affirmation
The psalm can be broken down into 3 categories.
The Shepherd as our PROVIDER
The Shepherd as our PROTECTOR
The Shepherd as our PRIEST
Provider//v1-3
He leads us to a better place, a place that is full of peace and stillness
Why do we lack nothing? Because HE is our shepherd and HE is the source!
In the shadow of His wing we are satisfied and restored.
We do not earn the straight path that He promised, He does it for HIS name!
Protector//v4
His eye is on us!
He is aware of us, our coming and going, our thoughts, and intentions of our heart
HE KNOWS YOUR NAME
Even when we run from His presence because of life, He is aware, and His love relentlessly pursues us and draws up back to Him.
Priest//v5-6
He anoints our heads with oil
He took us from a place of sin and brings us into his inner courts where His presence is felt-Holy Communion
We were lost but now we get to serve HIM
We were once wondering around like sheep and now we follow Him through the valley and up the mountain-we learn from HIM
He calls us Sons and Daughters
He has promised us goodness and mercy
What is God saying to me?
I am the living bread the provides you DAILY bread
I want to restore your mind by brining you to STILL waters and LUSH green pastures
I have promised you goodness and mercy, it WILL follow you
How can I walk this out?
See the Lord as my Shepherd leading and guiding me
I should ask the Lord for help when I am feeling overwhelmed.
My mind can be restored when I am close to the Shepherd-He lays me down in lush green pastures and leads me by the still waters
Holy communion and closeness with the Shepherd is healing for my soul and restores my mind when I have spiraling thoughts
Pray that the Lord will anoint me with His spirit so that I’d be propelled into the world
